The Abandoners perform at Gower Bluegrass fest this weekend!

We hope you’ve had a fantastic summer! Although we’re in September now, we like to extend the summer with a whole raft of brilliant bluegrass festivals which take place in this month. We were all at the excellent Didmarton Bluegrass Festival last weekend, and although we weren’t performing this time, it gave us a chance to get together for a fun and productive rehearsal. We also had a little video shoot done while we were there! More on that soon….meanwhile here is a campground video clip of an old JJ Cale song we’ve been working up.

Next up for us is the the lovely Gower Bluegrass Festival, this coming weekend (8-10 September) on the scenic Gower peninsula in South Wales. We’re delighted to be performing at this smashing festival, which takes place in and around the quirky Gower Heritage Centre, and will feature some fab bands including our pals Hot Rock Pilgrims and Cousin Pearl. There will doubtless be tons of picking sessions, as well as instrument workshops and the customary Gospel session in the beautiful old chapel a few doors up the road. It’s a really friendly festival with extremely reasonable ticket prices, a real ale bar and hot food available in the Centre. There are also superb beaches just a 15 minute walk through the adjacent woods – Three Cliffs Bay is quite spectacular and it’s a great little excursion if you want to get off site for a while – or for those less hardcore bluegrass enthusiasts in the family. We hope to see some of you there!

We’ll be on stage Friday night (10pm) and Saturday night (7pm)
